Glen E. Dandeneau — Forestry — 1989-2026

Glen Dandeneau’s illustrious career at Berea College began 36 years ago.  After receiving his B.A. in Agriculture from Berea College in May 1987, Glen worked as a farm manager in Florida for a while, then returned to Berea and was hired as a Horticulturist in Grounds in 1989.  In 2002, Glen became Assistant Forester in the Forestry Department.

Whether through his dedication to students as a labor supervisor, his hard work on campus and in the forest, or his lively music performances around town, Glen has had a large positive impact on the community at large.  Glen is that guy that “everyone knows”.

Students have admired the fact that Glen puts out 100% whether he’s doing grueling physical labor like digging water bars on a trail with them or helping them navigate the arduous process of getting certified to help with prescribed burns.   Glen just never seems to wear out or give up.

Colleagues, too, are exceedingly appreciative of Glen’s high energy, his willingness to pitch in wherever needed, and his dedication to the students and the forest.  He has served as a valuable mentor for both students and coworkers and has been a bastion of continuity through the years.  Many of the trees on campus, trails on the forest, and positive visitor experiences here owe a great deal to Glen’s efforts over the years.

Glen has also been a beloved member of the community; and will certainly continue to be even after his retirement.  His passion for nature is as evident to those who have known him as his love of music.  Whether Glen is wielding his trusty “Zubat” pruning saw or his beloved harmonica, he’s always giving it all he’s got.

We will miss Glen. Thank you, Glen, for your energy…we thank you for sharing your many gifts and talents with us.

Happy retirement!
