🐢 You Found a Turtle with a QR Code!

Thank you for taking a moment to help with turtle research in Kentucky.

My name is John Abrams, and I’m an ecologist studying Eastern Box Turtles in Kentucky. This turtle is part of a long-term research project to better understand their population, movement patterns, health, and habitat use.

If you’re seeing this message, you’ve found a turtle that has been safely marked with a small QR code for individual identification as part of this study.

📸 How You Can Help

Please take a moment to report this sighting by sending the following:

  • Photos of the turtle:

    • The top of the shell (carapace)

    • Both sides of the shell

  • The location (GPS coordinates or a nearby landmark)

  • The date the turtle was seen

You can submit this information through any of the following:

🐢 Have You Seen Other Box Turtles?

You can also contribute by reporting any past or future box turtle sightings, even if they didn’t have a QR code — as long as you know when and where the sighting occurred, those observations are still very useful to this project.

💚 Why It Matters

Box turtles are declining across much of their range. Your report helps track individual turtles across seasons and years, giving us crucial insight into how to better protect them in the wild.

Thank you for supporting turtle conservation in Kentucky!
