The Ecovillage, the Forestry Outreach Center, and the Office of Sustainability have teamed up to plan a campus-wide Earth Day event to be held on Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd!  Students, staff, and faculty are invited to come out for a fun-filled day of celebration and service. 

 Earth Day will be a celebratory event that reminds us of our connections to the Earth and to each other. The goal is to seamlessly blend fun, education, and service/reciprocity. Earth Day provides an opportunity to celebrate sustainability work across campus and to honor the practice of living sustainably, according to Berea College’s Great Commitments.

Schedule of Events for Monday April 22nd, 2024

* The service projects will be held rain or shine, on Monday, April 22nd.  

**The rain date for the celebration will be on Wednesday, April 24th. 

 

8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. -- Service Project: Tree Plantings, various locations

Multiple classes will be participating in planting 24 trees around campus in honor of Earth Day 2024!

Join President Nixon in planting the first tree at 8:30am behind Lincoln Hall.

 

1:00 - 4:00 pm -- Service Project: Mulch Madness, in front of Emory

Come pick up a shovel to help spread mulch around trees, adding a protective layer to their root systems.

CHALLENGE: Which building on campus will have the most participants? Sign in at the check-in table near Frost!

You will also receive 35 Go365 points for participating!

 

4:00 - 6:00 pm -- Celebration! locations listed below

- Poetry readings at 4:30: Alumni Patio

- Japanese Taiko performers: Alumni Fountain

- Horse-drawn hay rides around Alumni Field

- Relaxing Walk in Brushy Fork at 5:00 pm, meet at "check in" table on Alumni Patio

- Lawn games: Fairchild Lawn

- Sensory Room: Alumni Activities Room & Gazebo on Fairchild Lawn

7:00 pm -- Planetarium Show -- Life: A Cosmic Story
