Students will imagine a pond they have seen, and think about why it may have been created in that spot. We will discuss three stages of succession over an 800 year period. After each inquiry-based discussion, students will draw a representation of that stage, including changes in plant and animal life.
If time and/or weather allows, we will walk to a creek near the Center to talk about the differences between a creek and a pond. Adapted from Project Wild activity. 1-1 ½ hours. (a good follow-up to Forest Succession or as a stand-alone lesson)
