McCrephy’s Field is a beautifully written and illustrated book about Forest Succession. After reading and discussing the book, the group will hike up to the meadow area, created when a fire burned through, to observe and discuss forest succession firsthand. We’ll talk about the reasons the Foresters have decided to keep the area as a meadow, how and why meadows were created and maintained in the past, and the things the Foresters do now to do to prevent the natural succession of the forest in that area.
