DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the Berea Printmaking Club for joining us at the Pinnacles on April 13th at 2:00pm to host a cyanotype printing event! \nCyanotype is a type of printing that uses UV light to expose chemically treated paper to show the “negative” of whatever object is placed. We will learn how to ethically source natural items from the forest that we can use in our nature art! \nThis activity is open for all ages. We will also have some paints and crayons that can be used with leaves etc. to make prints as well. \nThis activity is weather dependent. DESCRIPTION:Friluftsliv\, is a Norwegian concept meaning\, “Open-air living.” It encourages people to spend time outdoors\, no matter the weather\, for their physical and mental health.\n\nLearn how to develop a closer relationship with nature and practice friluftsliv in this two-hour workshop led by Heather Dent and Wendy Warren. We will lead participants through a series of activities and provide them with resources to help them incorporate this concept in their day to day lives. This event is in collaboration with the Madison Country Public Library who will be there to check out a variety of books on this topic!\n\nThis workshop is designed for ages 14 and up\, but younger children may also attend. DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Berea Parks & Rec\, MCPL Outreach\, Winterberry Studios & the Forestry Outreach Center have some fun programming to help you fall into reading! \nThis month’s Fall into Reading theme is Hygge: get comfy and read a book. We will focus on how we can create a cozy environment as the weather becomes colder and darker. We will have hot cocoa and cookies\, a pop-up library with books to read and check out\, and a scent library. \nHeather Dent with Winterberry Studios will have materials available to make fairy light lanterns. This is a perfect activity to prepare for the shortening daylight of winter. Please note that this activity will need teen or adult help. There is a chance you will get messy. \nThe FOC will have a leaf sensory bin filled with representations of critters that use leaf litter to overwinter and other cool items to talk about hibernation!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for mornings of Forest Superhero fun: Tuesday\, August 6th – Friday\, August 9th: 10:00am-12:00pm. Free activities for families with children 1st-4th grade. Call 859-756-3315 or email zagrayk@berea.edu to sign up for one or all days!\n\n*When you think of a superpower\, what comes to mind? Something that is super-human\, an impossible ability that can only be read about in a comic book or seen in a movie? Well\, what about the superheroes of the forest? Wildlife have abilities that are completely real\, but still sometimes unbelievable! The natural world is full of plants\, animals\, fungi\, and bacteria\, that work their magic all around us.\n**We invite the whole family to participate in the activities as well. We just ask that you stay close by\, as we CANNOT have parents drop their children off and leave. The activities will be in/around the Center and in the lower forest area. There are multiple places to sit outside and a hammock stand.\n\nWe would suggest to bring/prepare by wearing clothes that can get dirty (long pants and closed toed shoes best for avoiding insect bites and poison ivy)\, a water bottle\, sunscreen & bug spray if needed. There is a water fountain in the Center and restrooms available.
