SUMMARY:Pinnacles Summer Morning Camp
DESCRIPTION:Won’t you be my neighbor…in the forest neighborhood? The Berea College Forestry Outreach Center is offering two sessions (different age ranges) of morning activities learning about our ecosystem/forest neighborhood and how to be good neighbors to each other and wildlife. \n\nThese activities are free\, but registration is required! This is not a drop off program–a guardian must be in range of the child(ren) at all times and participation is encouraged! There will be some stationary activities as well as walking in the lower forest and on some trails. You do not have to commit to all three days\, you can specify days below. If you will register children for both sessions\, please submit a form for each session.\nPlease reach out to zagrayk@berea.edu with any questions.\n\n*Session 1 — July 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd — 9:00am-12:00pm — Ages 4-7 \n*Session 2 — August 6th\, 7th\, and 8th — 9:00am-12:00pm — Ages 8-10 \n \nIf you have children outside of the age ranges\, you are welcome to bring them with you as the guardian and they can participate when possible\, though some supplies will be limited to the number of registered children. Both sessions will have similar activities and cover similar topics\, but Session 2 will dig deeper into topics. Please reach out to zagrayk@berea.edu to discuss any questions about how to register with multiple children.\nEach session will have 15 participant spots. If spots fill up before you register\, you will be contacted to be on a wait list to be alerted if spots open up.\n***In case of thunderstorms/pouring rain\, we will move activities into the gazebo or classroom but the morning might end before 12:00pm. We will try to move any missed activities to the next day\, weather permitting.\n\nFree\, but registration is necessary by filling out this FORM. \n

DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the Berea Printmaking Club for joining us at the Pinnacles on April 13th at 2:00pm to host a cyanotype printing event! \nCyanotype is a type of printing that uses UV light to expose chemically treated paper to show the “negative” of whatever object is placed. We will learn how to ethically source natural items from the forest that we can use in our nature art! \nThis activity is open for all ages. We will also have some paints and crayons that can be used with leaves etc. to make prints as well. \nThis activity is weather dependent. DESCRIPTION:Come and spread your creativity by adding to the natural playscape in the lower forest at the Pinnacles! We will be using all natural materials that we have gathered\, will gather on the day\, or\, if you have specific ideas in mind\, feel free to bring natural materials/material that will biodegrade safely (excluding anything that might be invasive). We will also be making pinecone bird feeders that you can take home or hang in the forest! Pop in and out from 1:00-3:00 pm. \nThe playscape is an ever-changing space at the Pinnacles where people of all ages can express themselves through nature art/building. \nCancelled in case of precipitation.

DESCRIPTION:Friluftsliv\, is a Norwegian concept meaning\, “Open-air living.” It encourages people to spend time outdoors\, no matter the weather\, for their physical and mental health.\n\nLearn how to develop a closer relationship with nature and practice friluftsliv in this two-hour workshop led by Heather Dent and Wendy Warren. We will lead participants through a series of activities and provide them with resources to help them incorporate this concept in their day to day lives. This event is in collaboration with the Madison Country Public Library who will be there to check out a variety of books on this topic!\n\nThis workshop is designed for ages 14 and up\, but younger children may also attend. DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Berea Parks & Rec\, MCPL Outreach\, Winterberry Studios & the Forestry Outreach Center have some fun programming to help you fall into reading! \nThis month’s Fall into Reading theme is Hygge: get comfy and read a book. We will focus on how we can create a cozy environment as the weather becomes colder and darker. We will have hot cocoa and cookies\, a pop-up library with books to read and check out\, and a scent library. \nHeather Dent with Winterberry Studios will have materials available to make fairy light lanterns. This is a perfect activity to prepare for the shortening daylight of winter. Please note that this activity will need teen or adult help. There is a chance you will get messy. \nThe FOC will have a leaf sensory bin filled with representations of critters that use leaf litter to overwinter and other cool items to talk about hibernation!
