DESCRIPTION:Join us for a slow-paced walk in the woods starting at sundown. This will give us a chance to find forest critters that are active in the evenings. We will also set up a moth sheet–a white sheet with a UV light that will attract nocturnal insects like moths and beetles–to observe when we get back from the walk. \nPlan for uneven terrain and about 1 mile of distance. DESCRIPTION:Every being on Earth has a place and a right to life. We are all connected. Join us and the Art in Action team for Rat Appreciation Day on March 29th\, 2:00-4:00pm at the Hafer-Gibson building. This is a celebration for World Rat Day (April 4th) as well as to acknowledge and shift perspective on critters that have a bad reputation. There’s something for all ages\, and the event is FREE. \nActivities include: \n\n\n-Rat themed crafts \n\n\n-Giant cardboard mazes \n\n\n-Scavenger hunt \n\n\n-Snake meet & greet \n\n\n-“Pest” control info \n\n\n-Short presentations on native rats and anthrozoology (the relationship between humans and animals) at 2:45pm \n-Rat themed trivia 3:15pm \n-Rat Fight Robotics Club\, their rat mascot & their aluminum can crushing robot! \n\nRat Fight is an FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team dedicated to teaching robotics to high school students in the Madison County area. Berea College students and industry professionals mentor these students\, guiding them through the engineering\, programming\, and teamwork skills needed to succeed in competitive robotics. Each year\, teams receive a brand-new game challenge and have just eight weeks to design\, build\, and program a robot from scratch. DESCRIPTION:*rescheduled to Feb. 15th \nWhile many plants lay dormant for the winter\, there’s still a lot of green to be found in forest. \n\n\nWe’ll leave at 2:00pm to go on a slow-paced\, child led walk in the lower forest to learn about lichen and moss. We can collect some to bring back and examine under a microscope! \nThis is geared towards elementary ages. Look for our lichen walk geared towards upper ages and adults on February 17th!

SUMMARY:Great Backyard Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Join in on a decades long global citizen science project. All it takes is 15 minutes a day from February 13th through February 16th. \nUsing the apps/websites Merlin and eBird\, you’ll record the types and number of birds you see during your observation windows on those days. You can observe in your own backyard\, go to a park\, or join us here in the lower forest at the Pinnacles! \nWe will meet at the Center at 9:15am to start observations shortly after. Come one day or all four–all observations help scientists worldwide study bird populations. \nLearn more about the GBBC on their website! \nAll ages are welcome. Using your own phone/app is optimal but not required\, you can just join in on the birdwatching!
